Collection: George Nelson

George Nelson (1908-1986) was a designer born in Hartford, Connecticut.

After studying architecture at Yale University and graduating, he established his own architectural firm and in 1945, became the design director at Herman Miller. For the next 20 years, until 1966, he unveiled many groundbreaking products that became icons of the 20th century, such as the "Coconut Chair," "Marshmallow Sofa," and "Swag Leg Group." He also handled the graphic design for the company's logo and catalogs. Furthermore, he was instrumental in introducing Charles and Ray Eames, and Alexander Girard, playing a pivotal role in establishing Herman Miller as a world-renowned furniture manufacturer in both name and reality. He is often associated with the term "Mid-century Modern" and is also known for his iconic series of wall clocks, the "Nelson Clocks."
