Citizen is a Japanese watch manufacturer that celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2018.

At a time when imported pocket watches were the mainstream portable timepieces, the first product for Citizen was a Japanese-made pocket watch developed in 1924 by Shokosha Watch Research Institute, Citizen's predecessor. This watch was named "CITIZEN" by Count Shinpei Goto, the then-Mayor of Tokyo, with the hope that it would be "loved by the people for a long time and across a wide range." Later, this watch's name became the company name, and Citizen Watch Co., Ltd. was established in 1930.

Since its founding in 1918, under the belief of "Better Starts Now," Citizen has continually explored and developed the possibilities of watches, including the world's first light-powered "Eco-Drive" technology and cutting-edge satellite-synchronized watches.
